Jean-Claude, a young bargeman offers a\ncontemporary counterpoint relayed by the testimonies of retired mariners of Longueil-\nAnnel. This village still keeps the histories and living testimonies of these ''water people'' passing on their heritage through the waterway festival.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ccdf654 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ccdf654\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Flat edge, macaroon, ecouart, odds and ends, scull, boulard, marquise ... so many words which in my ears had very little resonance. And yet all this strange jargon became familiar to me when I got in touch with the elders of Longueil Annel when in 2008, charged by the museum of inland waterways, I carried out a dozen interviews with couples of former boatmen. It was the discovery of Daniel Wattiau's Super 8 archives that convinced me to continue my work with this documentary project. The inhabitants have for the most part a bond with the inland waterways. They are a part of history, of boat memory and it is not for nothing that on the day of disembarking they choose to settle here, near the canal. Here, the side canal at the Oise, built in 1835, allowed more traffic for the barges.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ef59d8c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ef59d8c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Between 1900 and 1950 the abundant activity of river transport still gave the village a particular color. Thus, the village and its thirty cafes and breweries could count in the evening up to 400 more inhabitants and a hundred boats waiting. The story of the \"people on board\", which I want to tell, is rooted in this village, an essential crossroads of waterways. In the seventies, he filmed on his boat \"Le Rove\", his family and his travels for ten years. His images take us to the Haute Seine, Belgium, Amsterdam, Rouen, Zeeland etc. By the eye of his camera we navigate on all types of canals, at sea, we pass lying dams, we cross cities, small corners of wild countryside.<br \/><br \/><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4187d37 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4187d37\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The technical and artistic quality of Super 8 films is remarkable. The spectator is truly immersed in the intimacy of the family, the boat, the life of a sailor. L\u2019association des bateliers de Longueuil est, pour eux, le dernier exutoire d\u2019une vie nouvelle de s\u00e9dentaire. Ils \u00e9clairent les visiteurs sur un monde m\u00e9connu, une profession dont la r\u00e9putation fut longtemps noircie par l\u2019illettrisme et l\u2019alcool.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9c45877 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9c45877\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>En activit\u00e9, ils trouvaient leur \u00e9quilibre dans le mouvement. Retrait\u00e9s, ils sont d\u2019un certain point de vue inadapt\u00e9s \u00e0 cette vie nouvelle, celle des \u00abgens d\u2019\u00e0 terre\u00bb. Pour les comprendre, il faut penser \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9motion de voyageurs qui, d\u00e9courag\u00e9s par la crise de la batellerie des ann\u00e9es 70, ont pris la d\u00e9cision de d\u00e9barquer avec leur \u00e9pouse ; cela signifie abandonner le m\u00e9tier de transporteur par eau, et surtout la vie \u00e0 bord qu\u2019ils n\u2019ont pratiquement jamais quitt\u00e9es depuis leur naissance.<br \/>Ce choc \u00e9motionnel leur a donn\u00e9 envie de faire conna\u00eetre ce m\u00e9tier, par l\u2019expression orale. Ils ont connu toute l\u2019\u00e9volution de la batellerie, du halage aux automoteurs modernes. L\u2019historique de leurs bateaux successifs est un exemple de l\u2019\u00e9volution des artisans bateliers. Plus que des \u00abguides\u00bb de la cit\u00e9 bateli\u00e8re, ils en sont l\u2019\u00e2me. He chose to be an employee at Cemex, a company that manufactures and transports gravel for public works, preferring job security and getting closer to his son. Deux jours avant le pardon de la batellerie, il ponce, repeint et pavoise son bateau. Apr\u00e8s l\u2019avoir embellit de belles couleurs, il attache m\u00e9ticuleusement, un \u00e0 un, une trentaine de drapeaux\u2026c\u2019est la premi\u00e8re fois qu\u2019il participe au \u00abpardon\u00bb. Ses grands-parents avant lui y avaient particip\u00e9, il assure donc \u00abla rel\u00e8ve\u00bb avec fiert\u00e9.
